May 2010- Women In Need Celebrated the Mother's of Kaua'i for Mothers Day. Boston Hair Design and Women In Need teamed up to give 25 selected Mothers a full day of pampering.

We all WIN with Green
Our mission is about changing lives and healing people, but it’s also about healing the planet. That’s why we became the first non-profit on the Hawaiian Islands to go green and why we continue to expand our eco-friendly practices whenever possible. We are helping to insure a brighter future for our clients and their families.We’re looking forward to the 2010 opening on Kauai of No hono wai (Living Water), our first therapeutic living home for women and their children which we hope will become a green living model for recovery centers all over Hawaii. The home will feature vegetable gardens fertilized by composted food waste, as well as solar-powered electricity, energy star-rated appliances and computers, and furniture fashioned from 100% recycled materials.
The green practices of Women in Need include:
- 100% use of recycled printer paper and paper goods
- Recycling of all bottles and cans
- Recycling of all cardboard
- Recycling of all used office equipment
- Double-sided printing
- Use of compatible recycled toner cartridges
- Reusable, washable drinking cups for employees
- Elimination of Styrofoam and paper cups
- Use and recycling of fluorescent bulbs
- Quarterly companywide meeting to review and supplement energy saving and eco-friendly practices
- Articles in WIN newsletter regarding green improvements
- Use of environmentally friendly cleaning supplies
- Use of as many green vendors as possible when purchasing
- Hiring of employees from local areas whenever possible
- Spring and Autumn bike to work days for Kauai facilities
- Encouragement of employee carpools
- Carbon credit purchase to offset all air travel
- Elimination of rental car use whenever possible
- Use of non-toxic paint on all new and remodeled structures
- Use of sustainably manufactured floor coverings or polished concrete on all new and remodeled structures
- Solar panel installment on all new facilities
- Energy star-rated appliances and computers for all new facilities
- Use of recycled furniture and/or furniture made from recycled material whenever possible.
